I first met Cyan because she was the girl friend (and then later the wife) of one of my very favorite people.
From the first conversation I ever had with Cyan’s husband Scott, I found I had developed a “guy crush” on him - one of those strong affections that a heterosexual man can develop for another man, which tends to feel a bit like puppy love. (Of course few straight men are quite so secure in their masculinity as to admit that this ever happens to them.)
Now you may have noticed that where people you have a crush on are concerned, you often tend to feel jealous about their other friends and loved ones. You find yourself thinking that they deserve better than those people. Although, if you are honest with yourself, you realize that you are just jealous that other people are getting to spend so much time with a person you wished you got to see more often - you think of them as competition for that person’s attention.
And that is pretty much how I felt about everyone I met who was close to Scott… that is, until I met Cyan.
Cyan is such a fun, intelligent, open, and interesting person, that I was immediately as attracted to her as I was to Scott. Maybe even more so because of an element of sexual attraction that I just don’t have for Scott (…sorry Scott.)
So now, being in love with the pair, I can’t help but think that they are perfect for each other, and I am not the least bit jealous about the great relationship they share. However, it would probably still be for the best, if everyone else were to just stay away from both of them…
