Shower Curtain thoughts

I was at a bbq largely populated by geeks. Specifically, engineering geeks who travel a lot and are into industrial design. And so I was not at all surprised when at one point the conversation turned to SkyMall. One guy mentioned that he was highly distrustful of the curved out shower curtain rods he saw advertised in there until he stayed in a hotel which was using them. To his surprise, the touted feeling that the shower would feel roomier was true. I seconded this, and we both described the curtains to others who had not experienced it. We both loved how such a simple design modification could generate such tangible and immediate results. Concerns were raised by some listeners about how having the rods curve into the main part of the bathroom would consume a bit of extra space, rendering it less than ideal for small bathrooms — often where you find the tight-feeling showers which could benefit from these specialized curtain rods. A suggestion was made to modify the design to include being able to swing it up and out of the way when you’re not in the shower. I pointed out that the curtains were sometimes already barely long enough for curved shower rods and swinging them up might make them drip water all over the floor as they were being raised. We settled on a collective desire for curved rods which swing downwards to become flat when not in use, probably with a button mechanism to lock them into place in both positions.

We then talked about how several of us did find that showers were such fertile ground for thoughts and ventured into our various theories about why that was true for each of us.

I felt such joy being surrounded by my people. Did I mention that I love geeks?

I love those curved rods and have had several conversations around the trend. What’s interesting, is that there are some states that are slow to adopt them and others where they are *everywhere*.

Also - I love reading SkyMall. I often have it read from front to back before the plane ever takes off. I like to see what new gadgets are out there. Yes, I’ve even ordered something from SkyMall. I don’t regret it. ;-)

    Geeks are awesome!!!
